RULES FOR PARTICIPANTS

  1.  The competition is open to pianists in grades 9-12 who are residents of Texas and studying with a private teacher.
  2.  Up to ten finalists will be selected through recorded auditions.
  3.  A teacher may submit as many students as he or she wishes, but only two students will be chosen from any given studio.
  4.  Former Grand Prize winners are ineligible to compete.
  5.  Previous Honorable Mention winners are invited to return if they qualify under all other competition guidelines.

     AWARDS

  1.  Up to four cash awards of $1000 may be given to Grand Prize Winners.
  2.  Cash awards of $300 will be given to the remaining finalists.

     Application Form, Fee, Audition Recording and Photo

Include the following items with the application:
   1. An audition recording(CD or DVD)
   2. A $50 nonrefundable entry fee
   3. A photo made with a digital camera.  Photos made with a phone will not be accepted.

Entries postmarked after this date will not be accepted.

     REPERTOIRE REQUIREMENTS

  1.  The program must contain compositions from at least two different periods of music (Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Impressionistic, Contemporary). The program is not to exceed 20 minutes in length.
  2.  No changes in repertoire are allowed following submission of the application.
  3.  All repertoire must be memorized.
  4.  Copies of all music must be provided for the judge. Photocopies will not be accepted.

     PARTICIPATION GUIDELINES

  1.  The competition requires a weekend commitment.
  2.  Complimentary tickets will be provided for the contestants, their parents and teachers for the performance on Friday, April 9.
  3.  Finalists will draw for performance placement at a reception following the concert.
  4.  Attendance at the Saturday and Sunday master classes and the recital on Sunday are required.
  5.  The McKinney Musical Arts Society will feature all contestants in a recital at the Heard-Craig Performance Hall on Sunday, April 11 at 3:30 p.m. At the conclusion of the concert the cash awards will be presented. Any winner unable to participate in this concert will forfeit the award.

     COMPETITION LOCATION

All events will be held at the Heard-Craig Performance Center,
204 Church Street, McKinney, Texas.

McKinney is located 30 miles north of Dallas on Highway 75.
